DStv Premium subscribers will have to part with UGX 8,000 more (3.5% increase) while Compact Plus will cost UGX 6,000 more (4.4% increase). DStv Compact, Dstv Access and Dstv Family rates have gone up 5.6%, (UGX 5,000), 5.7% (UGX 2,000) and 5.8% (UGX 3,000) respectively. It’s no big secret that since Netflix made inroads in Africa, DStv has been struggling to retain viewership. Of recent, quite possibly due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, Pay TV service providers and media streaming service providers alike have been hard pressed to find fresh new content for their subscribers. If you must know, DStv recently added some new content to their lineup after months rehashing the same reruns. Of late, we have started to see some brand new international and African TV shows and movies. We are talking about VMA Awards, I May Destroy You, No Limit Chronicles and Barkskins e.t.c. Unfortunately, it appears these fresh new titles came with revised subscription rates. To be quite honest, these price hikes could not have come at a worse time for everybody. Covid-19 has grounded legions of workers. People are cooped up in their homes, struggling to make ends meet and raise their children as best they can. There isn’t as much disposable income as there used to be.
