Now combine the two and you have something a bit more interesting. The second largest PayTV operator in Africa and one of the most successful curators of Nigerian content create a formidable force in the content industry in Africa. The two parties seem to share a common strategy that for PayTV to grow in Africa, broadcasters must invest in local content; “StarTimes share our long view that for PayTV as a whole to grow, it must marry great local and international content with affordability.” Jason said on his blog. After last 6 months of hard core negotiations that iROKOTV founder Jason Njoku described as not “easy deal to negotiate” on his personal blog, the two have agreed to offer two new channels on Startimes PayTV — iROKO Play and iROKO Plus. These will be available across Africa where Startimes has presence availing viewers exclusive Nollywood content. iROKO Play and iROKO Plus will be available in Nigeria on StarTimes Basic and Unique bouquet at N1, 000 ($5) and N3, 000 ($15) respectively. In Uganda, Startimes has confirmed on their Facebook page that iROKO Plus will be available on the Unique bouquet starting 1st May, although they haven’t yet confirmed local pricing. Startimes’ Unique package currently has 67 Channels going for a price UGX 49,500 for a duration of 25 days. Image: Jason’s blog
