The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ is a smart device for locating lost objects. It’s a simple device with a button in the middle and a hole at the top. You can attach the device to your backpack’s keyring, your pet’s collar, or car keys. It can be activated by connecting the device to a Samsung smartphone and opening the SmartThings app on the phone. If you don’t have it installed previously, you can download it from the Galaxy store and then add the Galaxy SmartTag+ from the menu.
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ Features
Comparing the SmartTag and SmartTag+ based on Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 (BLE), the SmartTag+ comes with both BLE and UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology which aids in pinpointing missing items with great precision. According to Samsung, it can detect Bluetooth range up to 120 meters when there’s no obstruction between the device and the user. Although the SmartTag+ boasts a shorter battery life (rated at 5 months) compared to the standard SmartTag (10 months/300 days). Fortunately, the SmartTag+ uses a standard CR2032 battery for easy substitution. The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ is compatible with UWB-equipped Samsung Galaxy devices such as Note 20 Ultra or S21 Ultra, Android 8.0 or higher, and a minimum of 2GB RAM. The device is also equipped with AR (Augmented Reality) technology that visually guides its user towards missing items using the device camera. To achieve this, the user has to opt-in for location tracking on the SmartThings app. The AR features also let the user know how far they are from the SmartTag+ location by pinpointing the direction. Also, the SmartTag+ has a sound feature that indicates its location. This seems like a helpful feature in certain situations when the user is close to the SmartTag+ and still can not locate it. The SmartTag+ also helps you control smart appliances; for instance, your smart AC can be switched off remotely, instead of switching off manually. This comes in handy especially when you are not home.
