Well, it’s not like his tweet popularized the app or something but his acknowledgment and using the app makes it even more mainstream than ever. Let’s look at what makes the audio-focused social media app stands out from the crowd and how you can connect and share your thoughts with others.
What Is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is a social media app where users share audio clips instead of text, video, or photo posts. You might have noticed the growing trend towards sound content in the social media space with Twitter recently introducing the ability to tweet audio content using iOS devices and Facebook Live audio failing to take off since 2017. Clubhouse seemed to have cracked the code with its recent popularity. The company describes itself as a “new type of social project based on voice” where “people everywhere (can) talk, tell stories, develop ideas, deepen friendships and meet interesting new people.” When users open the app, they can choose between the different virtual “rooms” to enter. Upon entering a room, the audio automatically turns on so that you can enjoy the conversations. The owner (in this case called the creator) of a room decides who can speak, and interested participants can raise their hands to join the discussion. How You Can Join Clubhouse?
At the moment, Clubhouse is an invite-only platform. Meaning you have to be invited to join the platform by an existing verified user. And to add salt to the wound, it’s available only for iPhone users and you have to be comfortable sharing your phone number with the user inviting you to the platform. Their website offers hope for those interested in joining though: A company statement says that they are “building Clubhouse for everyone and working to make it available to the world as quickly as possible.” Keep in mind it’s still unclear when people will be able to join without an invite or how close they’re with releasing an Andriod app. iPhone users can download the app and reserve a username without an invitation right now without having access to the chat rooms. The main feature that distinguish Clubhouse from other social media sites, like Twitter, Facebook and more, is the audio-based format. There are several benefits to using the audio-only feature. For starters, you don’t have to worry about where you are, how your hair looks or lighting in the room. Second, the audio-only aspect allows your audience to multi-task and doesn’t require as strong of a signal as the video enabled social networks.
